St. Fachtnan’s Cathedral Kilfenora

This ancient building is located in the centre of the village of Kilfenora in the north of County Clare. There is no indigenous congregation in the area but the cathedral is still a consecrated building. Each year a Christingle (Christ Light) service is held here which has a good attendance mainly from people of other faiths and even no faith. But they want to express their support for our church in the locality at Christmas time. This support is welcomed and forms part of our outreach to other Christian denominations.

In recent years there has been much talk about Celtic Spirituality and ‘Camino’ walks and the development of these pilgrimages. These are eminently suited to the area and could be linked with the ancient and historical building which is St. Fachtnan’s Cathedral. Pilgrim paths are already operational in the county and more are planned.
